Remember to have a fishing permit and follow the fishing regulations for a safe and successful experience.
This is the largest lake in the area with an area of 678 hectares. The lake has a maximum depth of about 17 meters and an average depth of about 4 meters. It contains several islands of varying sizes. In the north, the lake is drained by the Färgeån river, which is 2.6 km long and empties into the Nissan river. The lake’s water inflows come from the Gasbboån river in the northeast and from Mellan Färgen in the south.
Zander fishing in the lake is often very good; its varied bottom structure has made the lake popular for both vertical jigging and trolling. Zander of about 6 kg are caught every year.
Pike fishing is best in the shallower parts and in the outlet down to the Färgeån river.
Perch fishing should be done near the shore and the rocky shoals, but don’t forget to visit some of the submerged branches scattered in the lake.
Stora Färgen offers excellent opportunities for several different fishing methods:
Trolling: Particularly effective for zander and larger pike.
Vertical jigging: Popular for zander in deeper sections.
Spin fishing: Works well along shorelines and at headlands for pike and perch.
Bait fishing: A good alternative for perch, especially in rocky areas.
Fishing in Stora Färgen varies throughout the year:
Spring (April-May): Excellent for pike when they seek out shallower waters.
Summer (June-August): Good zander fishing, especially during early mornings and late evenings.
Autumn (September-October): Perch fishing is at its best, and pike become more active again.
Winter (ice fishing): Popular for perch and pike when ice conditions permit.
