Södra Färgen is the second-largest lake in our fishery management area, with an area of 293 hectares. The lake is located just north of the village of Femsjö and is characterized by its great variation in bottom structure, with both steep drop-offs and shallow sandy beaches. This diversity contributes to rich fishing, and the lake is especially appreciated for producing slightly larger zander each year. Its location, without direct access via a boat ramp, contributes to a more undisturbed fishing experience for those who make their way there via Mellan Färgen.
Södra Färgen offers excellent conditions for several different fishing methods, with a particular focus on:
Trolling: Very effective for zander over the deeper sections and along drop-offs.
Vertical jigging: Popular for zander, especially over the steep drop-offs.
Spin fishing: Works well along shorelines and at headlands for pike and perch.
Bait fishing: Can be a good alternative for perch and bream, especially in the more vegetation-rich or shallow areas.
Spring (April-May): Good for pike when they seek out shallower waters.
Summer (June-August): Excellent zander fishing, especially during early mornings and late evenings. Also good for perch fishing.
Autumn (September-October): Perch fishing is often at its best, and pike become more active again.
Winter (ice fishing): Popular for perch and pike when ice conditions permit.
There is no official boat ramp in Södra Färgen. The lake is only accessible via Mellan Färgen, which means a boat must be launched there and then travel to Södra Färgen.
