Mellan Färgen

Mellan Färgen is the smallest of the three Färgen lakes, with large variations in water depth

Mellan Färgen is the smallest of the three Färgen lakes and is connected to Stora Färgen in the north and Södra Färgen in the south. The lake is characterized by large variations in water depth, with shallower sections in the south at the Ibro swimming area and significantly deeper areas on the lake’s western side, where the depth can reach a full 18 meters. Mellan Färgen receives its water from the Yabergsån river and from Södra Färgen. Be aware of a dangerous rock located along the lake’s northeastern side, about 50-200 meters from shore, in line between the two bridges.

Mellan Färgen is the smallest of the three Färgen lakes and forms an important link between Stora Färgen in the north and Södra Färgen in the south. The lake has a varied bottom structure with significant depth variations. In the southern part, around the Ibro swimming area, the lake is relatively shallow, while the western side offers depths down to 18 meters. The lake’s water inflows come from the Yabergsån river and Södra Färgen. During a visit, you can also take the opportunity to enjoy the Ibro swimming area, beautifully located at the lake’s southern edge. Note: A dangerous rock is located along the lake’s northeastern side, about 50-200 meters from shore, in line between the two bridges. Be careful when boating in this area.

Mellan Färgen offers good conditions for fishing for pike and perch. Due to the varying depths, both spin fishing over drop-offs and bait fishing in the shallower sections can be successful. It is likely that other species such as roach, bream, and bleak/bleak-like fish are also found in the lake, which opens up for varied fishing.

  • Spring (April-May): Good for pike when they seek out shallower waters.

  • Summer (June-August): Perch fishing is often good, especially during early mornings and late evenings.

  • Autumn (September-October): Pike become more active again, and perch fishing can be really good.

  • Winter (ice fishing): Popular for perch and pike when ice conditions permit.

There is no official boat ramp for launching a boat in Mellan Färgen. However, there may be unofficial spots where smaller boats or canoes can be launched.
